Today it’s exactly 1 year ago that we moved to Canada, woohoo! In our Christmas mail we already looked back at all we have achieved – we have jobs, bought a house, adopted cats – and we’re proud of it! Right now we’re waiting for the extensions of our work permits, the Canada Post lost our registered (!) envelope and we had to send it in again with Fedex who delivered it the next day. Processing times are long though, so it can take up to another 2 months \ud83d\ude41 We also applied for provincial nomination and they already assessed our file (said it could take 6 months)!!! They need the new work permits too though, but after that they will nominate us and our package can be sent to the federal government for the last part. So maaaybe we’ll become permanent resident some time this year already!!!<\/p>\n
Don’t we miss Holland at all? Nah.. we miss certain people sometimes (but hooray for MSN and Skype) and little things like ‘bamihapjes’ and curry ketchup (to name a few), and occasionally something slightly bigger like New Year’s Eve celebrations Dutch style (outside after midnight with all your neighbours watching fireworks) or the ProgPower festival. But that’s about it.. nothing major I’d say. We haven’t had any big surprises, I think because we were well prepared, just little ones like missing certain articles in the supermarket or… mmm couldn’t even think of another example. How well did we integrate? I think we did well, though we didn’t join organizations to meet new people and all that. We already had a bunch of good friends here (Canadians) and gained a few more, and occasionally talk to some of the neighbours (we hope on some improvement with others over time). All in all I think we’re doing really well and most importantly, we’re home!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
